Tenkara Fishing

Tenkara originated in the mountains of Japan, where trout fishermen developed a minimalist rod-and-fixed-line technique for narrow streams. Modern tenkara pairs a 10-14 ft telescoping rod with a 10-14 ft level line tied to the tip - no reel, no complexity. It excels in tight streams where a traditional fly rod is unwieldy. Increasingly popular in the US for backcountry and small-stream trout fishing.

Developed in mountainous regions of Japan over 200+ years ago. Modern revival began in the 1970s as sport fishing distinct from commercial hunt for market.
