By using Aquareap, you agree to these terms. Please read them carefully — they cover how you may use our data, API, and community features. Last updated: September 2026.
1. Acceptance of Terms
By accessing or using any part of the Aquareap website (Aquareap.com), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Use. If you do not agree to these terms, do not use the site.
We may update these terms from time to time. Continued use of Aquareap after any change constitutes acceptance of the revised terms. Material changes will be notified to registered users by email.
2. Permitted Use of Content
Aquareap's species data, editorial content, and visual assets are provided for personal, educational, and non-commercial research purposes. You may:
- View, read, and print pages for personal use
- Share links to Aquareap pages
- Quote brief excerpts (up to 150 words) with clear attribution to Aquareap and a link to the original page
- Use our API (with a valid API key) within the rate limits of your access tier
You may not reproduce or republish substantial portions of our content without a written licence. Contact partnerships@Aquareap.com for content licensing enquiries.
3. API Usage
Access to the Aquareap API requires registration and a valid API key. By using the API you additionally agree to:
- Display appropriate attribution to Aquareap in any product or publication that uses our data
- Not resell or redistribute raw API data as a competing dataset without a commercial data licence
- Respect the rate limits associated with your access tier
- Not use the API to harvest bulk content for the purpose of replication without a licence
We reserve the right to revoke API access for misuse without prior notice.
4. Community Observations
By submitting an observation to Aquareap, you grant us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to display, reproduce, and distribute that observation (including any photograph) on Aquareap and in Aquareap's scientific data outputs.
You retain ownership of your photographs and observation notes. You confirm that any content you submit is your own original work, does not violate anyone else's intellectual property rights, and does not contain false or misleading information.
We may remove any observation that violates these terms or our community guidelines without notice.
5. Accuracy Disclaimer
In particular:
- Fishing regulations vary by jurisdiction and season. Check with your local fisheries authority before fishing. Aquareap does not provide legal fishing advice.
- Mercury and food safety data are sourced from FDA/EPA but may not reflect regional variations. Consult local food safety authorities if in doubt.
- Medical information about venom or toxins is for educational purposes only. In any medical emergency, contact emergency services immediately.
6. Prohibited Uses
You may not use Aquareap to:
- Scrape or systematically harvest content without an API licence
- Transmit spam, malware, or any code that disrupts the site's operation
- Impersonate any person or entity
- Submit false or misleading observation data
- Attempt to gain unauthorised access to our systems
- Use the site for any purpose that violates applicable law
7. Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Aquareap is provided on an "as is" basis without warranties of any kind. We are not liable for any loss or damage arising from your use of, or inability to use, the site or its data — including fishing decisions, dietary decisions, or medical decisions made based on information found on Aquareap.
8. Governing Law
These terms are governed by applicable law. Any disputes arising from these terms shall be resolved through binding arbitration or in the courts of the relevant jurisdiction.
