Water: Both
Difficulty: Intermediate
Best: Year-round Cost: $150+
📖 Overview
Jigging is one of the oldest and most productive fishing techniques. The angler drops a weighted lure (jig) and imparts action by lifting and dropping the rod tip. Modern variants include speed jigging (fast rips through the water column), slow-pitch jigging (subtle side-to-side glides), and butterfly jigging (falling flutter). Each technique targets a different mood of fish.
🎒 Gear Needed
Jigging rod (7-8ft, medium-heavy), quality spinning or conventional reel with strong drag, braided main line, fluorocarbon leader, assortment of jigs (5-16 oz depending on depth), split rings.
📋 Technique Steps
1) Drop jig to target depth on sonar. 2) For speed jigging - fast, aggressive rips upward. 3) For slow-pitch - controlled sweep with a flick of the wrist. 4) Let jig fall on slack line - most strikes happen here. 5) Set hook firmly on any tap or weight change.
