📖 Overview
Yellowtail parrotfish (Scarus hypselopterus), first described by Bleeker, 1853 is a medium-sized fish in the family Labridae (order Perciformes). Adults typically reach 31.00 cm in maximum length. It inhabits marine coastal and open-ocean environments. Recorded depth range: 10 to 30 metres. It occurs in Tropical waters. On the IUCN Red List, it is classified as Near Threatened.The species is important as a food fish, kept in the aquarium hobby, and considered a sustainable seafood option under current management. As a member of the Labridae, it shares life-history and morphological traits with its relatives in the group.

Dorsal spines (total): 9; Dorsal soft rays (total): 10; Anal spines: 3; Anal soft rays: 9. Males resemble S. bowersi but differs in that the tan area of S. bowersi does not extend as far back as the anal fin . Initial phase has a distinctive black spot at front of the anal fin and yellowish tail and soft dorsal fin.: elongated; Cross section: compressed.
