📖 Overview

Southern Pacific moray cod (Muraenolepis pacifica) is a ray-finned fish of the family Muraenolepididae. It inhabits marine (saltwater) waters in deep-water environments. This species can reach a maximum total length of 39 cm. It occurs at depths between 200 and 450 metres. With a trophic level of 3.4, it is a low-level carnivore, feeding on invertebrates and small organisms.

🐟 Physical Description

Dorsal spines (total): 0; Dorsal soft rays (total): 173 - 187; Anal spines: 0; Anal soft rays: 126 - 133; Vertebrae: 72 - 75. The caudal part is shorter in proportions. The postanal distance over the body length, and the postanal distance over the ante-anal distance are diagnostic, especially on the field. Other Muraenolepis are quite different.: eel-like.
