📖 Overview

Patagonian moray cod (Muraenolepis orangiensis) is a ray-finned fish of the family Muraenolepididae. It inhabits marine (saltwater) waters. This species can reach a maximum total length of 30 cm. It occurs at depths between 135 and 860 metres. With a trophic level of 3.4, it is a low-level carnivore, feeding on invertebrates and small organisms.

Dorsal filament 3 times longer than eye diameter; pectoral fins rather short, not reaching to anus when appressed. Lateral line extending to below middle of second dorsal fin. Color is gray-reddish; body with small black dots; abdomen black .: elongated; Cross section: oval.
