Kayak Fishing

Fishing from a paddle or pedal kayak - offering access to shallow, quiet water inaccessible to larger boats.

Water: Both Difficulty: Intermediate Best: Spring, summer, fall Cost: $800+

📖 Overview

Kayak fishing has exploded in the past decade. Modern fishing kayaks include pedal drives, standing decks, rod holders, and even trolling motors. The stealth of a kayak lets anglers approach spooky fish that a powerboat would send fleeing. Species ranging from bass to tarpon, and even sailfish, are now regularly taken from kayaks.

🎒 Gear Needed

Fishing kayak (sit-on-top preferred), paddle or pedal drive, PFD (life jacket), fishing gear appropriate to target species, dry bag, anchor, GPS/fishfinder.

🦺 Safety Considerations

Always wear a PFD. File a float plan. Check weather - especially wind. Dress for the water temperature, not the air. Practice self-rescue.
