📖 Overview

Yellowbelly pufferfish (Takifugu flavidus) is a ray-finned fish of the family Tetraodontidae. It inhabits marine (saltwater) waters in benthic environments. This species can reach a maximum total length of 35 cm. With a trophic level of 3.4, it is a low-level carnivore, feeding on invertebrates and small organisms. It is assessed as Near Threatened on the IUCN Red List. Venomous.

🐟 Physical Description

Dorsal spines (total): 0; Dorsal soft rays (total): 15 - 16; Anal spines: 0; Anal soft rays: 13 - 15. Body covered with prickles. Yellowish-brown or greenish brown with many round white spots dorsally. An irregular small black blotch on side just behind pectoral fin. A longitudinal yellow band running on ventrolateral part of body from corner of mouth to lower base of caudal fin .: short and / or deep.
