📖 Overview
Sind sardinella (Sardinella sindensis), first described by Day, 1878 is a medium-sized fish in the family Dorosomatidae (order Clupeiformes). Adults typically reach 17.00 cm in maximum length. It inhabits marine coastal and open-ocean environments. Recorded depth range: 0 to 50 metres. It occurs in Tropical waters. The species schools in loose to tight aggregations. On the IUCN Red List, it is classified as Least Concern.

🐟 Physical Description
Dorsal spines (total): 0; Dorsal soft rays (total): 13 - 21; Anal spines: 0; Anal soft rays: 12 - 23. Total number of scutes 31 to 34; lower gill rakers increasing with size of fish. Vertical striae on scales not meeting at center, only a few small perforations on hind part of scale. Closely resembles S. gibbosa which has fewer perforations on its scales. Of other sympatric Sardinella species, S. melanura has distinctive black caudal tips while S. albella has fewer scutes.: fusiform / normal; Cross section: compressed.

Marine; pelagic-neritic; depth range 0 - 50 m . Tropical; 30°N - 10°N, 42°E - 74°E Indian Ocean: Arabian Sea, from Gulf of Aden to the Persian Gulf and Bombay.
