Bleeker's blacktip sardinella (Sardinella atricauda) is a ray-finned fish of the family Dorosomatidae. It inhabits marine (saltwater) waters in pelagic environments. This species can reach a maximum total length of 12.6 cm. It occurs at depths between 0 and 50 metres. It is assessed as Least Concern on the IUCN Red List.

🐟 Physical Description

Dorsal spines (total): 0; Dorsal soft rays (total): 13 - 21; Anal spines: 0; Anal soft rays: 12 - 23. Body slender; total scutes 32 to 35 (pre-pelvic scutes usually 19). Lower gill rakers with many asperities on them. Vertical striae on scales not meeting at the center, numerous small perforations on hind part of scale. No dark spot at dorsal fin origin; tips of caudal fin black. Most closely resembles S. melanura which has fewer scutes.: fusiform / normal; Cross section: compressed.
