Gulf - Saltwater
Fish of the Persian Gulf
The hot, hypersaline gulf between Iran and Arabia - the warmest sea on Earth. Home to pearl oysters, sherris (Persian yellowfin), and specialised heat-tolerant corals.
Continent: Asia Area: 251,000 km² Max Depth: 90m Climate: Tropical
📖 Overview
The Persian Gulf routinely exceeds 35 C in summer with salinity approaching 42 ppt - the harshest coral reef environment on Earth. Yet corals live here, and their heat tolerance is now a research target for climate-resilient reef restoration. Historic pearl oyster fisheries dominated the Gulfs economy before oil.
