Chesapeake Bay stretches 320 km from northern Maryland to southern Virginia. Its brackish waters serve as spawning grounds for the entire Atlantic striped bass population. Blue crab, oyster, and rockfish (striped bass) fisheries define regional identity - though pollution and habitat loss have devastated once-legendary oyster reefs.
