📖 Overview
Wetlands filter water, buffer floods, and nurture fish. Freshwater marshes (Everglades, prairie potholes), tropical swamps (Amazon várzea, Congo basin), and boreal bogs each host distinct fish communities. Bowfin, gar, mudminnows, and killifish thrive in low-oxygen wetlands where more oxygen-demanding species can't survive. Wetland loss globally exceeds 50% since 1900.
