Adults inhabit sandy and rocky pools, runs and riffles of small to medium rivers. Also found in impoundments . They feed on detritus, diatoms, and a wide variety of small invertebrates such as microcrustacea, rotifers, caddisfly larvae, and phantom midge larvae .
