The fleshy papillae at the posterior and ventral edge of the orbit may function to ensure smooth flow of water over the eye when swimming rapidly . Feeds on zooplanktons . Oviparous, distinct pairing during breeding . Eggs are demersal and adhere to the substrate . Males guard and aerate the eggs . Diurnal species .
