With a trophic level of 3.9, it is a mid-level predator. It is assessed as Data Deficient on the IUCN Red List.

Marine; bathypelagic; depth range 0 - 3184 m . Tropical; 1°N - 0°N, 83°W - 82°W Central Eastern Pacific: known only from a single leptocephalus collected between Ecuador and the Galapagos, 0°36'N, 82°45'W (type locality).
