📖 Overview

Xyrichtys Wellingtoni (Xyrichtys wellingtoni) is a ray-finned fish of the family Labridae. It inhabits marine (saltwater) waters in benthic environments. This species can reach a maximum total length of 7.2 cm. It occurs at depths between 18 and 20 metres. With a trophic level of 3.3, it is a low-level carnivore, feeding on invertebrates and small organisms. It is assessed as Vulnerable on the IUCN Red List.

Dorsal spines (total): 9; Dorsal soft rays (total): 12; Anal spines: 3; Anal soft rays: 12. Principal caudal rays 12 (middle 10 branched); upper and lower procurrent caudal rays 5 or 6; terminal phase pink with purple, diamond-shaped mark covering most of each scale; dorsal, anal and basal half of caudal fin dark purple; pelvic fins dusky purple; pectoral fins translucent; juveniles and initial phase fish mainly white to pale pink with translucent fins .: fusiform / normal.
