Ionic Composition of Seawater

The eight major ions that account for 99% of seawater composition - sodium, chloride, magnesium, sulfate, calcium, potassium, bicarbonate, and bromide.

Unit: ppm profile Code: SEAWATER_IONS

📖 Overview

Natural seawater has a remarkably constant ionic composition worldwide - chloride 19,000 ppm, sodium 10,500, sulfate 2,600, magnesium 1,280, calcium 400, potassium 380. Reef salt mixes replicate these ratios. Deviations from natural seawater (over-elevated calcium, depressed magnesium) cause chemical imbalances in reef tanks.
