Gas Chemistry
Nitrogen Supersaturation
When water contains more dissolved nitrogen gas than atmospheric equilibrium - can cause gas bubble disease in fish.
Unit: percentage Code: N2_SAT
📖 Overview
Water plunging down a spillway or exiting a high-pressure pump can pick up excess dissolved gas. If a fish then swims into equilibrium water, gases come out of solution inside the fish - forming bubbles under skin, in gills, and in the swim bladder. This is gas bubble disease. It is a hidden hazard of poorly-designed pumping systems in fish farms and public aquariums.
❓ Why It Matters
Under-appreciated hazard in intensive aquaculture and hatcheries. Total gas pressure meters detect it before fish show symptoms.
