Distinguished from all its congeners in Balkan Peninsula by the combination of the following characters: body depth 24-28% SL; upper jaw extending beyond posterior margin of eye; black spots mainly on upper half of flank, pinkish to orange spots along lateral line and lower half of flank, black spots more numerous than orange ones only in anterior part of flank .: fusiform / normal.
