🐟 Physical Description

Dorsal spines (total): 14; Dorsal soft rays (total): 11 - 12; Anal spines: 3; Anal soft rays: 9; Vertebrae: 27 - 28. It is distinguished from all congeners by the presence of a characteristically robust and strongly recurved oral dentition . An extremely deep-bodied and robust species, rather less laterally compressed than other members of the genus . Coloration in life: body dark golden-green dorsal of midline, and bright, iridescent golden below; no distinctive lateral markings; unpaired fins dusky charcoal gray, membranes grayish to hyaline, pelvic fins hyaline proximal to base, blackish distally, and pectoral fins bright yellowish-orange . Ground coloration in preservative is dark brownish-green: short and / or deep.
