📖 Overview

Slender dwarf monocle bream (Parascolopsis qantasi) is a ray-finned fish of the family Nemipteridae. It inhabits marine (saltwater) waters in benthic environments. This species can reach a maximum total length of 10.3 cm. It occurs at depths between 65 and 70 metres. With a trophic level of 3.4, it is a low-level carnivore, feeding on invertebrates and small organisms. It is assessed as Data Deficient on the IUCN Red List.

🐟 Physical Description

Dorsal spines (total): 10; Dorsal soft rays (total): 9; Anal spines: 3; Anal soft rays: 7. The head scales reach forward in V-shaped patch to between middle of eyes. The posterior margin of preopercle is more or less vertical; the lower limb of preopercle is naked. The posterior margin of the suborbital has 2 or 3 tiny spines, a small spine is at the upper corner. The pectoral fins moderately long, reaching to or just short of the anus. The pelvic fins are long, reaching to beyond the anus. Axillary scale present. Color: Upper body dark brownish, paling to whitish below. A prominent black spot is at the base of the pectoral fin.: fusiform / normal; Cross section: oval.
