Scaly dwarf monocle bream (Parascolopsis townsendi) is a ray-finned fish of the family Nemipteridae. It inhabits marine (saltwater) waters in benthic environments. This species can reach a maximum total length of 20 cm. It occurs at depths between 100 and 410 metres. With a trophic level of 3.5, it is a low-level carnivore, feeding on invertebrates and small organisms. It is assessed as Least Concern on the IUCN Red List.

Posterior margin of preopercle sloping backward slightly. Lower limb of preopercle scaly. Suborbital scaly. Posterior margin of suborbital fine serrate, no spine at upper corner. Pectoral fins long, reaching to above origin of anal fin. Pelvic fins long, reaching to or almost to level of anus. Color: Reddish throughout with a silvery lateral stripe.: fusiform / normal; Cross section: oval.
