Blackhead salmon (Narcetes stomias) is a ray-finned fish of the family Alepocephalidae. It inhabits marine (saltwater) waters in deep-water environments. This species can reach a maximum total length of 57.5 cm. It occurs at depths between 1500 and 2300 metres. With a trophic level of 3.6, it is a mid-level predator. It is assessed as Least Concern on the IUCN Red List.

Marine; bathypelagic; depth range 1500 - 2300 m , usually 1800 - 2100 m . Deep-water; 54°N - 28°S, 166°E - 2°W North and South Atlantic, continental slope of southern Africa, Indian Ocean including Arabian Sea, Gulf of Oman, Mascarene Plateau, Ninety East Ridge, Broken Ridge, Exmouth Plateau and some other seamounts, eastern and western Pacific Ocean (north and south).
