📖 Overview
Banded basslet (Lipogramma evides) is a ray-finned fish of the family Grammatidae. It inhabits marine (saltwater) waters in benthic, deep-water environments. This species can reach a maximum total length of 4 cm. It occurs at depths between 45 and 365 metres. With a trophic level of 3.2, it is a low-level carnivore, feeding on invertebrates and small organisms. It is assessed as Least Concern on the IUCN Red List. Commercially fished and consumed as food.

This species is distinguished by having D XII, 9; A III, 7-8 (the last composite); pectoral, 15-16; pelvic I, 5 (the outer 2 segmented rays elongate, extending well beyond the anus); principal caudal rays 17; vertebrae 25 (10 + 15); total gill rakers 20-21; branchiostegals 6 (4 + 2); no lateral line canal on body; maxilla naked; head and body crossed vertically by 3 violet-brown bands .
