📖 Overview

Multispine prickled eelpout (Krusensterniella multispinosa) is a ray-finned fish of the family Zoarcidae. It inhabits marine (saltwater) waters in benthic environments. This species can reach a maximum total length of 12.5 cm. It occurs at depths between 53 and 386 metres. With a trophic level of 3.2, it is a low-level carnivore, feeding on invertebrates and small organisms.

Dorsal spines (total): 95 - 110; Anal soft rays: 81 - 94; Vertebrae: 100 - 112. This species is distinguished by the following characters: pungent spines D XV–XX, total spiny rays in the anterior and middle parts of the dorsal fin (D1 + D2) 60–69; length of the pungent part of the dorsal fin (D2) 17-22% of the caudal-part length (from anal-fin origin to the end of caudal fin) and 43–72% of the posterior dorsal-fin part (D3); preoperculomandibular pores 6; developed scales only on the tail and do not reach the anal-fin origin; vertebrae 100-112 (19-20 + 80-92), D 95-110 (45-49 XV-XX 34-49); A 81-94; P 10-12 .Cross section: compressed.
