📖 Overview
Noodling is fishing with your bare hands. During catfish spawning season, males guard eggs in holes under banks, submerged logs, and rocks. A noodler wades or dives to the hole, thrusts a hand inside, and lets the male catfish bite down - then grips through the fishs mouth and pulls it out. Catfish in the 20-60 pound range are common; 100+ pounders have been landed. Dangerous - the risk includes drowning, snapping turtles, and cottonmouths.
🦺 Safety Considerations
Never noodle alone. Beware alligator snapping turtles, water moccasins, and beaver dens. Wear gloves. Understand submerged terrain.
📋 Regulations
Legal in only about a dozen US states. Prohibited in most Northern states. Check local regulations - many restrict to specific waters or seasons.
