Collected from deep crevices on steep outer-reef slopes or walls exposed to current and clear oceanic waters; 4 of the 5 specimens were collected from depths of 50 m or greater. It is probably more widespread in the region in similar habitats .

🐟 Physical Description

Dorsal spines (total): 7; Dorsal soft rays (total): 9; Anal spines: 1; Anal soft rays: 8. This species is distinguished from its congeners by the following characters: all cephalic sensory-canal pores absent; dorsal/anal fin-ray formula 9/8; unbranched pectoral-fin rays 13-14; with fifth pelvic-fin ray and 10-17% of fourth ray; body crossed by 5 narrow, white, vertical lines separating wider dark bars and with the dark bar under posterior half of second dorsal fin wider than orbit diameter .Cross section: oval.
