📖 Overview

Sulu Dragonfish (Eustomias suluensis) is a ray-finned fish of the family Stomiidae. It inhabits marine (saltwater) waters in pelagic, deep-water environments. This species can reach a maximum total length of 10.9 cm. It occurs at depths between 0 and 300 metres. With a trophic level of 4.2, it is a mid-level predator. It is assessed as Data Deficient on the IUCN Red List.

🐟 Physical Description

Dorsal soft rays (total): 24; Anal soft rays: 39; Vertebrae: 67. Two terminal bulbs separated by a long interspace, 1.9-2.4 times the length of distal bulb. Barbel length mostly 52-59% SL. Three long filaments, arising together from distal end of distal bulb or from a short stem; with numerous very small bulblets along most of their length. Distal bulb 1.5-1.8 times length of proximal-bulb. Barbel pigment variable, but a prominent dark spot or cap formed at the base of distal bulb. Middorsal paired spots between occiput and dorsal-fin origin 9 .: elongated.
