📖 Overview

Chain pearlfish (Echiodon dawsoni) is a ray-finned fish of the family Carapidae. It inhabits marine (saltwater) waters in benthic environments. This species can reach a maximum total length of 11.2 cm. It occurs at depths between 60 and 180 metres. With a trophic level of 3.5, it is a low-level carnivore, feeding on invertebrates and small organisms. It is assessed as Least Concern on the IUCN Red List.

🐟 Physical Description

Eel-like, shallow body depth; 1 to several symphyseal fangs on dentary and premaxilla; lacking cardiform teeth, pelvic fins, and swim bladder rocker bone; a patch of ridges posteriorly on the ventral surface of the swim bladder . 39-43 anal fin rays in front of vertical through back of 30th vertebrae; 11-12 anal fin rays in front of vertical through dorsal fin origin .: eel-like.
