Facultative air-breathing ; Often found in the company of C. melanistius brevirostris and C. spilurus on sandy bottoms traversed by a strong current . Abundant in the backwaters of sandy beaches downstream from rapids; also occurring in creeks with sandy-rocky bottom and some plant debris .
