Found over muddy bottoms in shallow, sheltered bays. Also occurs over sandy areas off beaches. Juveniles inhabit very shallow sandy shores. Feeds on fish .
Diagnosis: snout longer than B. lepturus, and subadults deeper bodied . Coloration: dark band on the lateral line; subadults typically yellow .: fusiform / normal.
