Marine; brackish; reef-associated; depth range 0 - 10 m , usually 0 - 2 m . Tropical; 32°N - 28°S East Africa to Johnston, Marquesas and Tuamoto islands, north to southern Japan, south to the southern Great Barrier Reef and Rapa Islands; Marianas and Marshall Islands in Micronesia.
