📖 Overview
Rice-fish culture is 2,000 years old in China and Southeast Asia. Common carp, silver carp, or tilapia are stocked in flooded rice paddies. Fish eat pests, weeds, and mosquito larvae; fish waste fertilises rice; rice roots harbor invertebrate food for fish. Yields exceed either crop grown alone. The system uses fewer pesticides, less fertiliser, and produces two crops from one field. Recognised by FAO as a Globally Important Agricultural Heritage System.
⚙️ How It Works
Rice paddies are flooded normally. Fingerling fish are stocked at planting. Fish forage on paddy fauna during growth. Rice harvest and fish harvest coincide - draining the paddy for both.

Common carp, silver carp, grass carp, Nile tilapia, prawns (Macrobrachium in tropical areas).
