📖 Overview

Twobelt cardinal (Apogonichthyoides taeniatus) is a ray-finned fish of the family Apogonidae. It inhabits marine (saltwater) waters in reef-associated environments. This species can reach a maximum total length of 17 cm. It occurs at depths between 5 and 20 metres. With a trophic level of 3.7, it is a mid-level predator. It is assessed as Least Concern on the IUCN Red List.

Dorsal spines (total): 8; Dorsal soft rays (total): 8 - 9; Anal spines: 2; Anal soft rays: 6 - 8. Eyes slightly larger than snout. Preopercular edge serrated, preopercular ridge smooth, weakly denticulate at angle. Brownish or silver grey. 3 darker vertical bands on each side, the first including a black ocellus with yellow or white ring, last band near the base of caudal fin.: short and / or deep; Cross section: compressed.
