Dark-finned stargazer (Uranoscopus brunneus) is a ray-finned fish of the family Uranoscopidae. It inhabits marine (saltwater) waters in benthic environments. This species can reach a maximum total length of 26 cm. It occurs at depths between 315 and 625 metres. With a trophic level of 4.1, it is a mid-level predator.

🐟 Physical Description

Vertebrae: 25. This moderately-sized species is distinguished by the following characters: a moderately large head, its length 3.2 in SL; lower edge of preopercle with 8 spines; labial fimbriae poorly-developed; anterior nostril has a long tubiform valve, posterior nostril a slit-like pore; supracleithrum has a sharp spine at rear end and five small spines inside; dorsoposterior margin of pectoral fin is concave; 62 oblique scale-rows along the sides of the body in adult; pectoralfin membranes dark brown . Cross section: oval.
