📖 Overview

Short-tail tripodfish (Tripodichthys oxycephalus) is a ray-finned fish of the family Triacanthidae. It inhabits marine (saltwater) waters in benthic environments. This species can reach a maximum total length of 20 cm. With a trophic level of 3.5, it is a low-level carnivore, feeding on invertebrates and small organisms.

Pelvis wide between bases of pelvic-fin spines (5 to 6.6% SL), its width 3.2 to 4.5 (usually slightly less than 4) times in length of pelvis. Caudal peduncle short, 19.2 to 23% SL (Ref 9804).: short and / or deep.
