📖 Overview
Garrett's filefish (Thamnaconus garretti) is a ray-finned fish of the family Monacanthidae. It inhabits marine (saltwater) waters in reef-associated environments. This species can reach a maximum total length of 20.5 cm. It occurs at depths between 31 and 710 metres. With a trophic level of 3.5, it is a low-level carnivore, feeding on invertebrates and small organisms. It is assessed as Data Deficient on the IUCN Red List.

Dorsal spines (total): 2; Dorsal soft rays (total): 33 - 34; Anal spines: 0; Anal soft rays: 31 - 33. This species is distinguished from its congeners by the following set of characters: body behind theh eye covered with many longitudinal, narrow dark stripes; pelvic flap with many narrow dark stripes running almost parallel to postero-ventral edge of pelvic flap; head with similar narrow dark stripes but at right angles to those on pelvic flap ..Cross section: angular.
