📖 Overview
Rough pomfret (Taractes asper), first described by Lowe, 1843 is a large fish in the family Bramidae (order Scombriformes). Adults typically reach 50.00 cm in maximum length. It inhabits marine coastal and open-ocean environments. Recorded depth range: 1 to 140 metres. It occurs in Temperate waters. Diet is predominantly piscivorous, targeting other fish and larger prey. On the IUCN Red List, it is classified as Least Concern.

Dorsal spines (total): 0; Dorsal soft rays (total): 31 - 34; Anal spines: 0; Anal soft rays: 23 - 26. Lateral line generally present. Dorsal profile of head between eyes flat or slightly convex, not notably arched. Dorsal and anal fins with scales.: fusiform / normal; Cross section: compressed.
