📖 Overview

Indo-Pacific ocellated flounder (Taeniopsetta ocellata) is a ray-finned fish of the family Bothidae. It inhabits marine (saltwater) waters in benthic, deep-water environments. This species can reach a maximum total length of 11.4 cm. It occurs at depths between 150 and 278 metres. With a trophic level of 3.5, it is a low-level carnivore, feeding on invertebrates and small organisms. It is assessed as Least Concern on the IUCN Red List.

🐟 Physical Description

Dorsal spines (total): 0; Dorsal soft rays (total): 85 - 97; Anal spines: 0; Anal soft rays: 71 - 81; Vertebrae: 40 - 42. Pelvic fin on ocular side slightly elongate, extending to near the tip of the isthmus, the distance between the tip of the isthmus and the insertion of the pelvic fine subequal to the length of the pelvic fin base. Second ray of the pelvic fin on ocular side opposite to the 1st on the blind side. In male, the 12th to 18th dorsal rays and the 1st to 8th anal rays greatly elongated into filaments . Soft ray count of pectoral fin refers to that on ocular side.: short and / or deep; Cross section: compressed.
