📖 Overview

Rosy dragonet (Synchiropus rosulentus) is a ray-finned fish of the family Callionymidae. It inhabits marine (saltwater) waters in reef-associated environments. This species can reach a maximum total length of 2.2 cm. It occurs at depths between 5 and 24 metres. With a trophic level of 3.1, it is a low-level carnivore, feeding on invertebrates and small organisms.

🐟 Physical Description

Dorsal spines (total): 4; Dorsal soft rays (total): 9; Anal spines: 0; Anal soft rays: 8. Males with 5 irregular brown blotches dorsally on body and a row of seven orange pink blotches along side linked dorsally by a midlateral narrow orange pink stripe; two small jet black spots above base of each pelvic fin; broken blue lines (brown in preservative) on head below eye, continuing onto gill membranes and pectoral-fin base where alternating with yellow; first dorsal fin with long dusky yellow to orange pink streaks on membranes; females similar but lacking the two small black spots and the blue and yellow striping of the lower head and pectoral-fin base; posterior two-thirds of the short first dorsal fin black.: fusiform / normal.
