Dorsal spines (total): 39 - 44. Stathmonotus tekla differs from Stathmonotus stahli in the following: segmented caudal rays 10-12, modally 11 (vs. 11-13, modally 12); dorsal-fin spines 39-44, modally 42 (vs. 41-45, modally 43); and precaudal vertebrae 16-19, modally 17 (vs. 17-19, modally 18) .
