An ubiquitous species which inhabits small to medium-sized streams. May be confined to very small pools during summer. Breeding occurs in shallow riffle habitats with fast-flowing water . Migration pattern is inferred from the behavior of other species in the same genus .
Dorsal spines (total): 3; Dorsal soft rays (total): 7 - 9; Anal spines: 3; Anal soft rays: 6 - 8; Vertebrae: 36 - 37. Mouth terminal; preopercular-mandibular cephalic sensory canal does not communicate with infraorbital canal; infraorbitals four and five considerably large, often fused ; 34-39 + 2 scales on lateral line, snout pointed; head length greater than body depth; a black dot on each scale; and 1½ -2½ scale rows between lateral line and pelvic origin .: fusiform / normal.
