Differs from members of the genus by the following combination of characters: absence of dark stripes on body; absence of bold concentric bands on posterior part of paired fins; pelvic fin not reaching anal-fin origin; general appearance robust, body width at dorsal-fin origin 24.2-28.0% SL; caudal peduncle depth 10.7-11.2% SL; caudal peduncle length 0.8-0.9 times in its depth; predorsal body length 51.3-53.7% SL; pelvic-fin origin in front of dorsal-fin origin; absence of cavity around mouth; skin-fold between oropectoral membrane and ventral surface of head running from pectoral-fin origin to second rostral barbel; tubercles on dorsal part of head concentrated on lateral part of snout; absence of large tubercles on branched pectoral-fin rays 15-21; and 60-70 lateral line scales .: elongated.
