Found commonly on rocky bottom in tide pools and near shore, also in kelp and eelgrass beds. Occur up to 46 m depth but usually at less than 15 m. Viviparous, with planktonic larvae . Most important rockfish to rocky shore and jetty fishermen. Good eating.
