📖 Overview
Shortraker rockfish (Sebastes borealis), first described by Barsukov, 1970 is a very large fish in the family Sebastidae (order Perciformes). Adults typically reach 108.00 cm in maximum length and up to 16.200 kg. Reported lifespan reaches approximately 157 years. It inhabits marine coastal and open-ocean environments. Recorded depth range: 0 to 1200 metres. It occurs in Deep-water waters. Diet is predominantly piscivorous, targeting other fish and larger prey. The species is valued as a game and sport species.

Dorsal spines (total): 13; Dorsal soft rays (total): 13; Anal spines: 3; Anal soft rays: 7; Vertebrae: 26. Head spines strong to moderate - nasal, preocular, supraocular, postocular, tympanic, coronal (may be absent), parietal and nuchal spines present . Less than 2 spines on lower orbital rim; very large pores on lower jaw . Caudal fin moderately indented . Reddish pink to orange red; mouth red and may have black blotches .: fusiform / normal.

🌍 Habitat & Distribution
Marine; bathydemersal; depth range 0 - 1200 m . Deep-water; 61°N - 34°N, 135°E - 120°W North Pacific: southern Japan to southeastern Kamchatka to Navarin Canyon in the Bering Sea, Stalemate and Bowers Banks and the Aleutian Islands south to Point Conception, California, USA.
