Shortsnout scorpionfish (Scorpaenopsis obtusa) is a ray-finned fish of the family Scorpaenidae. It inhabits marine (saltwater) waters in benthic environments. This species can reach a maximum total length of 10 cm. It occurs at depths between 0 and 15 metres. With a trophic level of 3.8, it is a mid-level predator.

Dorsal spines (total): 12; Dorsal soft rays (total): 9; Anal spines: 3; Anal soft rays: 5; Vertebrae: 24. Snout very short, about equal to orbit diameter. Ascending process of premaxilla extending into interorbital space. Body depth of adults 2.0-2.2 in SL. Longitudinal scale series 37-39 (Ref 42181). : short and / or deep; Cross section: oval.
