The Rio de la Plata is the funnel-shaped estuary carrying the second-largest South American river discharge into the Atlantic. Golden dorado (Salminus brasiliensis) - the "river tiger" - is the flagship game fish. The estuary supports major commercial anchovy and hake fisheries.
