📖 Overview

Occurs in groups in fresh and brackish waters with salinities up to 7 ppt, abundant at depths around 5 m over black mud. Feeds predominantly on benthic invertebrates. Spawns in coastal waters close to river mouths, over mud bottom. Spawning occurs in May-June. More or less abundant in lower reaches of rivers and coastal lagoons but increased salinity resulting from reduced flow in all large rivers, which are now dammed, may pose threat to its population .
