Inhabits coral reefs of bays at the reef edge, or on the reef slope at depths of 2-16 m. Individuals live commensally on the branches of species of coral genus Pocillopora, mostly with Pocillopora eydouxi .

This species is distinguished by the following characters: P-V 3/II II I I 0/9; origin of first dorsal fin posterior to the upper base of pectoral fins, origin of pelvic fins directly below the lower base of pectoral fins; colour of head and body light reddish yellow, median fins black and paired fins translucent .: elongated; Cross section: oval.
